Who works in the church

The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Denmark has both employed staff and volunteers working together to be Church. In this section you can meet people who are involved at parish level. The pastor

In addition to preaching and to administering the sacraments, the pastor has a broad range of tasks, e.g. counselling, teaching, leadership responsibilities.

The church musician

Playing the organ during church services, organising concerts, hymn singing with babies and their parents. These are just some of the things the church musicians do.

The sacristan

A combination of administrative tasks in the church office and practical tasks during the church service is what often characterises the job of a sacristan.

The verger

Who maintains the church buildings? And who rings the church bells on Sundays? It is usually the verger.

The sexton

The primary responsibility of the sexton is that of laying out and maintaining the churchyard.

The parish helper
